The expression of emotions in a foreign language is difficult for advanced learners beacuse, even if there is a shared physiological and psychological basis for the feelings themselves, there can be considerable differences among languages in how an emotion is expressed linguistically. In this task, information from corpora is used to contribute to raising learner awareness of these differences.
The task combines different types of corpus data: information from corpus-based dictionaries, lists of collocations and co-ocurrences provided by on-line corpora, and corpus searches as well as analyses of sample concordance lines performed by the learners themselves. In order to carry out the task you will have to process foreign language data actively and to consciously trace the way an emotion concept is conceptualised and expressed in the foreign language in contrast to your mother tongue.
