Prof. Joaquín Huerta is full professor in the Department of Information Systems at UJ. He holds a Degree in Computer Science and a Master’s Degree in Computer Aided Design from the Polytechnic University of Valencia (Spain), and a PhD in Computer Science Engineering from The Universitat Jaume I.
He leads the Geospatial Technologies Research Group GEOTEC and is principal investigator of several EU projects, such as GEO-C (H2020) ERMES and EUROGEOSS (7FP), ENABLE (Erasmus+) CityBench (ESPON) and eSDI-NET+ (6FP) and projects funded by the Spanish government such as Smartways, “España Virtual” and Geo-clo
His main activities involve research in smart cities/campuses, Internet technologies, Augmented reality, 3D models, Web 2.0, contextual systems, sensor networks and GIS application development.ud.
He is co-Director of the Master in Geospatial Technologies funded by Erasmus Mundus program and Director of the PhD Program on Integration of Geospatial Information.
He is also the principal investigator and coordinator at UJI of the GEO-C: Joint Doctorate in Geoinformatics – Enabling Open Cities at the Universitat Jaume I, obtained in the Horizon 2020 Marie Curie ITN EJD call; this is one of the first PhD programs in Smart Cities, with a special attention to the publication of data in open formats (Open Cities), that is being carried out.
He teaches classes on Internet Technologies, Comunications and Geographic Information Systems.
GEOTEC is one of three partners organising the Joint Doctorate “Geoinformatics: Enabling Open Cities (GEO-C)”, funded under the EU Marie Curie International Training Networks (ITN) program, European Joint Doctorates (EJD). GEO-C aims to contribute methods and tools to realise smart and open cities, in which all groups of society can participate on all levels and benefit in many ways. nity to do research and advance the state of the art in smart and open cities.
ENAbLE is a 3 year EU Erasmus+ project starting September 2014, in which GEOTEC cooperates with the University of Munster (Germany) and the University of Aveiro (Portugal) to improve ICT and spatial literacy skills in secondary schools.
Smart Ways is a 3-year funded project by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (Retos colaboración 2014), for developing an innovative platform aimed at promoting sustainable mobility, which will satisfy the deficiencies in the field of transport.
The ERMES project (EU-FP7) aims to develop pre-operational downstream services dedicated to rice farming systems based on the assimilation of Earth Observations (EO) products and in-situ data within crop yield modelling.
SEnviro (Sense the ENVIROnment) is a project whose aim is to monitor the status of the current environment, providing a low-cost, open and autonomous solution.
The GI N2K project is an extensive network of 31 partners from 25 countries from the academic and non-academic sector linking up with associated partners from the broader industry (e.g. SHELL), major GI associations and individual experts.
This project develops, tests and deploys the Healthy Cities information system comprised of efficient and interoperable backend services beyond today’s search engines, and intelligent frontend or client-based services beyond complex user interfaces and adapting new participatory tools and mobile devices.
The ESPON 2013 Programme, the European Observation Network for Territorial Development and Cohesion, was adopted by the European Commission on 7 November 2007.
