Assessment

The mark for the module will be derived from students’ acknowledgement of course contents (20%), and a final assignment (80%):

(1) Acknowledgement of course contents (20%)

Students’ acknowledgement of course contents will be based on either students’ attendance to lectures (for in-class students), or a short assignment (for on-line students).

On-line students (and those that could not attend to at least 60% of in-class sessions) should write a short theoretical essay dealing with the main contents of the course (all the slides are available in the Aula Virtual), in order to show that they have also followed all course contents.

This short essay should answer the following question:

“Which are the main issues to take into account when writing a research project?”

You can summarize the information included in the slides, but please note that you should do it in a formal written prose (not in a schematic way, as the slides) and include, whenever necessary, your own point of view.

The length of this essay should be between 2,500 to 4,000 words.

(2) Final assignment (80%)

Your final written assignment will focus on critical evaluations of research papers, and you will have to do the following tasks:

1.  Analyse these three papers (article 1, article 2 & article 3) dealing with the teaching of pronunciation and fill in a Checklist for the critical evaluation of a research paper.

2.  Exchange with one of your peers a final paper you need to hand in for any of the MELACOM courses, and help your peer by completing the same checklist. If you cannot obtain a paper from one of your peers, analyse one of the research papers you have already handed in.

You will have to fill in the checklist for the 4 sources, and write a brief paper (minimum 6,000 words) commenting on the results of your analyses, in a formal written prose, and including introduction-body-conclusion (and appendices, if necessary).

Assignments can be submitted via e-mail to Ana.Fernandez@uji.es.

Deadline to hand in the assignments:        11th March2011.
